Venue

This week’s PGA Tour event is the CareerBuilder Challenge, which takes place across three Californian courses – La Quinta Country Club and the Stadium and Nicklaus Courses at PGA West, with the Stadium course hosting Sunday’s final round. The tournament was formerly known as the Humana Challenge and before that the Bob Hope Classic, and the defending champion is Hudson Swafford. Bill Haas won for the second time in 2015, while other former champions include Jason Dufner, Patrick Reed, Brian Gay and Phil Mickelson, also a two-time winner.

Favourites

Spanish star Jon Rahm has opted to play on the PGA Tour rather than in Abu Dhabi this week and he leads the betting for this event at 10/1 with Bet365. Brian Harman, who recorded his fifth successive top 10 finish in Hawaii on Sunday is at 14/1 across the board with Kevin Kisner at 20s with most firms. Stan James are offering Reed at best odds of 22/1 and Webb Simpson is a 25/1 chance with Coral after sharing fourth place at the Sony Open.

Tips

CHEZ REAVIE has been playing consistently well without getting the results he perhaps deserves, but the 36-year-old from Arizona is worth following at odds of 50/1 with Unibet this week. The world number 91 hasn’t missed a cut since May’s Byron Nelson event and has finished between 10th and 25 on all six of his starts this season. He was 12th here last year and 17th a year earlier, giving him something to build on.

CHARLES HOWELL III had a decent week in Hawaii, where he carded four sub 70 rounds to stand him in good stead for a tournament he has played well in over recent years. Howell was runner-up here in 2013 and has placed 11th and 12th in the last two editions. The world number 67 already has a top five finish at the OHL Classic to his name this season and Coral are best price 50/1 as well as offering 7 places for each-way bets on this event.

BRIAN STUARD finished his 2016/17 season with a run of seven consecutive missed cuts, but a break of a couple of months appears to have worked wonders and he has started 2017/18 in great form, recording three top 10 finishes from his first half dozen events and making the cut at all six. He was fourth in Hawaii to add to his top five at the Sanderson Farms event and can be backed at best odds of 80/1 with Stan James, with 6 places.
