Castleford are now the clear favourites to land their first Super League title after beating Leeds 38-24 on Friday to claim their eighth straight win. Having never previously finished higher than fourth in Super League, Cas have already surpassed all expectations by winning their first League Leaders Shield and their fourth victory over the Rhinos in all competitions this season took them 12 points clear at the top of the table.
They began the season as 16/1 outsiders for the title with Ladbrokes, but with the play-off semi-finals approaching they are now no better than 6/5 with Bet365, Betfred and BetVictor, with Leeds 4/1 at Ladbrokes and Coral.
Wigan, who moved into the top four with their win over Hull – extracting some revenge for their Challenge Cup final defeat a couple of weeks ago – are 5/1 with Paddy Power, with Hull out to 11/2 with the same firm. With two games remaining St Helens are 2 points outside the top four and they are priced at 9/1 by most firms.
