Bryson DeChambeau remains on course to end his season with a Ryder Cup debut and a $10m bonus after leaping to the top of the FedEx Cup standings by winning The Northern Trust.
The 24-year-old, who also won the Memorial Tournament two months ago, finished four shots clear of the field.
DeChambeau has yet to make his mark on the majors, but he has enjoyed a fantastic season on the PGA Tour, with five further top 10 finishes and only three missed cuts.
His win lifted him to 12th in the world rankings and, surely, to the top of captain Jim Furyk’s list for a Ryder Cup wildcard.
The eight men already qualified for the US are all ranked in the world’s top 17, including the top three.
Furyk has the option of turning to the vast experience of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson to further boost his ranks.
The Americans are the favourites to win the match at Le Golf National near Paris next month, at best odds of 10/11* with Coral.
DeChambeau, meanwhile, is a 66/1* chance with BetVictor to win the next major, next April’s Masters at Augusta.
