Novak Djokovic is the 3/1* favourite with Ladbrokes and Betfred to win the US Open after rediscovering his touch in spectacular fashion at Wimbledon. After outlasting Rafael Nadal over five sets to win a pulsating semi-final on Saturday afternoon, the 31-year-old Serb defeated a tired Kevin Anderson in straight sets to lift the trophy on Sunday and claim his 13th Grand Slam victory.
It’s been a tough couple of years for Djokovic, who won four successive majors from Wimbledon 2015 to the following season’s French Open, but has since slipped to 21st in the world rankings after a run of injuries.
With Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal still on the scene, former champions Marin Cilic and Juan Martin Del Potro more than capable of winning again and outsiders such as Great Britain’s Kyle Edmund not without a chance, the championship at Flushing Meadows promises to be wide open. Federer’s five US Open titles came in successive years from 2004 to 2008, yet the Swiss star, who will turn 37 before the start of the tournament, is the 7/2* second favourite with most bookmakers.
