Venue

The DP World Tour Championship 2017 brings the curtain down on the European Tour season, as the top 60 players on the Race to Dubai compete for the overall title at the Jumeirah Golf Estates course in Dubai. At 7,675 yards this course strongly favours those who can generate great distance off the tee and the wide fairways, large greens and absence of water hazards also play into the hands of the big hitters. Alvaro Quiros and Robert Karlsson were the 2010 and 2011 champions before Rory McIlroy and Henrik Stenson took charge, winning two titles apiece before Matthew Fitzpatrick’s victory last year. Injuries prevent both McIlroy and Stenson from teeing it up this week, when we will see one of Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia crowned as the tour champion.

Favourites

Rose has been in outstanding form, winning on each of his last two starts in China and Turkey and the world number six is the clear market leader at best odds of with Paddy Power – who are offering 6 places for each-way bets. Masters champion Garcia is a 12/1 chance with Coral, while his fellow Spaniard Jon Rahm is at 14/1 with Stan James. Branden Grace, winner of last week’s Nedbank Golf Challenge, is also 14s at Bet365, with Tyrell Hatton, twice a winner in January, 16/1 with Paddy Power.

Tips

Rafa Cabrera-BelloRAFA CABRERA-BELLO has established himself in the world’s top 20 for the first time this year, with seven top 10s and a victory at the Scottish Open taking him to what will be his highest year-end ranking. The Spaniard, who was fifth in China last month, hasn’t made a significant impression here before, with a best result of ninth in 2014, but then he hasn’t had a year as good as this before either. Bet365 & Coral are offering the best available odds of 40/1.

Joost LuitenJOOST LUITEN is ending the 2017 season on a high, with his second place in Andalucia followed by good performances in Turkey and South Africa, where he finished 12th on Sunday. The Dutchman is renowned for being a prolific birdie-maker when he gets in the groove and he likes it here, too, having finished fourth in 2013 and ninth a year later, while he was only six shots off the pace last year. Luiten is best price 40/1 with Betfred & Unibet.
