Easter Saturday Horse Racing Tips

It is the Challenger Series Finals Day at Haydock, with three of the contests on ITV.

Challenger Two Mile Hurdle Series Final Handicap Hurdle

The first of those is the most competitive – a handicap hurdle over two miles. The large field and fast ground should really suit CAUSE TOUJOURS, who is trained by dual purpose supremo, Ian Williams.

Williams has been waiting for the ground to come right for this horse, who ran well behind the high class Grand Sancy here two starts back.

Casa Tail and Bhutan were also on the shortlist, but for those looking for something at a bigger price the bottom weight, TEASER, and CHIEFTAN’S CHOICE could be of interest. The former ran well in a big field handicap at Ascot last time out and could really come into his own on this lively surface, whilst the latter also hinted at a return to form at Aintree last time out. Gavin Sheehan is an interesting jockey booking.

Betfred and Paddy Power are offering 5 places for each-way bets on this race.

Challenger Staying Chase Series Final Handicap Chase

Conditions for the staying chase that follows should be perfect for SOMEKINDOFKING, who takes a big drop in class after his last outing at the Cheltenham Festival. The only concern is the recent form of his yard.

Challenger Stayers Hurdle Series Final Handicap Hurdle

It is the turn of the staying hurdlers next, and Ian Williams has a strong hand again, saddling the bottom three in the handicap. Pick of that trio may prove to be SLIDING DOORS, if he can recapture his early season form now back on this better ground.

NO HIDING PLACE looks the danger if connections have got to the issue that made him bleed last time out.

Scottish Sprint Cup Handicap

To prove his versatility, Williams saddles one of the favourites for the Sprint Cup up at Musselburgh, Moktail, but we prefer one of the Paul Midgely runners – FINAL VENTURE. This horse missed the Dubai Carnival this year and reportedly has thrived at home as a result.

Stablemates Line OF Reason and Captain Colby are obvious dangers, but the others to back are EEH BAH GUM and SOLDIER’S MINUTE, who could be young sprinters on the upgrade. A fast five furlongs should be ideal for the pair, although they have to overcome tricky draws.

BetVictor are offering 5 places for each-way bets on this race.

Queen’s Cup Stakes

Musselburgh’s other big race is the Queen’s Cup, which is dominated by Mark Johnston runners. They are likely to make this is a decent test and that should suit AUSTRIAN SCHOOL, who looks the pick provided he can get to the front from a wide draw.

The strong early gallop could also suit some of the hold-up performers, including PIPES OF PIECE, who caught the eye staying on strongly over a shorter trip in the Rosebery.

KELLY’S DINO was eighth that day and will also be better suited by the greater emphasis on stamina today.
