Venue

The St Jude Classic has been staged at the TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee since 1989. The 7,241-yard, par 70 layout is ranked among the toughest on the PGA Tour and features many bunkers and water hazards. The 239-yard par three 14th is notorious for being one of the most difficult short holes on the tour. Ben Crane is the defending champion and is best price 150/1 with Stan James to retain his title, while other recent winners include Harris English and Dustin Johnson.

Favourites

With Jordan Spieth not in action, Dustin Johnson heads the betting market as he looks to build on a promising season ahead of the US Open and the Open at St Andrews. Johnson is 6/1 with most firms, with Phil Mickelson, the 2013 runner-up, a distant second at 18/1 with Coral. The in-form Ryan Palmer, 2013 winner Harris English and England’s Paul Casey are other leading contenders.

Tips

Billy HorschelBILLY HORSCHEL enjoyed a red hot streak at the end of last season but he hasn’t had much success since the turn of the year. However, his recent results point to an upturn in form, with his share of 11th place at the Memorial Tournament following on from a tie for 13th at the Players Championship. Horschel has placed in the top 10 in each of the last two editions of this tournament, finishing in a share of sixth place here last year and the 20/1 offered by Coral compares favourably to the rest of the market.

Matt-EveryMATT EVERY has not made too much impact since winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March but the pressure is off for the rest of the season and he will enjoy coming back to play Southwind having finished third here 12 months ago. Both Coral and Stan James are quoting odds of 100/1 (66/1 elsewhere) and that looks good in an event which is wide open and where there are few obvious selections.

stefaniSHAWN STEFANI has been hugely consistent this year, posting nine top 25 finishes and missing just three cuts, and he played superbly here for the first three rounds in 2013 before failing to hold his nerve on the Sunday. That was his rookie season and he has more experience under his belt now and should be able to hold it together better if he can get into a strong position again. He’s an interesting each-way choice at 55/1 with Bet365.

Paul CaseyPAUL CASEY has played here only once, finishing just outside the top 20 last year, and if he can continue the sort of form he was showing five or six weeks ago he can improve on that position this time around. Casey had a run of five top 10s in seven events before withdrawing from the Players and then posting a disappointing result at Colonial. He’s just 18/1 with Stan James, but can be backed at odds of 28s with Betfred.
