Fabio Fognini is a popular selection in the betting for next month’s French Open tennis after securing the Monte Carlo Masters title on Sunday.
The 31-year-old Italian beat Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic 6-3 6-4 in the final to earn his first Masters series title, having stunned 11-time winner Rafael Nadal along the way.
Most bookmakers have reacted by cutting Fognini’s odds for Roland Garros, with BetVictor now offering best odds of 66/1*.
Despite his successful week in Monaco, it’s a stretch to imagine Fognini going all the way in Paris. In 11 previous appearances in the French capital he has reached the quarter-finals only once, back in 2011.
Nadal remains the firm favourite to win a remarkable 12th French Open title, even if what he describes as one of his ‘worst matches on clay’ did raise more than a few eyebrows. Betfred have responded by pushing him out to a best price of Evens* to win the second Grand Slam tournament of the year.
