Friday Horse Racing Tips

There are four races live on ITV4 from Cheltenham this afternoon and the action kicks off with a mares handicap chase at 1.55pm.

Mares’ Handicap Chase

Of the fancied runners, Black Tulip appeals most, but it looks a race where a surprise might be possible and the two to back at bigger prices are MISS NIGHT OWL and TROUBLED SOUL. The former is stepping up in trip and that could bring about some improvement, whilst the further the latter went on her last start the better she looked and she could be a mare on the upgrade.

CF Roberts Handicap Chase

The day’s big race is a grade 3 handicap chase at 2.30pm and it features a number of horses who have run well here before. They include THEATRE TERRITORY who has also run some good races for us in the past without getting her head in front. The longer trip today could be the key and she should be hard to beat.

At a bigger price, EL BANDIT looks the main danger. He is on the comeback trail after injury, but ran well enough on his reappearance despite pulling up in the end. He clearly needed that run and so should be a lot sharper today. He looks well handicapped and loves this decent ground.

Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase

It is the cross country next and the two French raiders look dangerous here. The pick of the pair is AMAZING COMEDY. He ran well over this course at the Festival last year and seems to be in even better shape this campaign.

A few of these are in less good form and it will be interesting to see if the unique fences revitalise the likes of Ballycasey and JUNCTION FOURTEEN. The latter has always promised to win a big race and so may be worth chancing at massive odds.

Citipost Handicap Hurdle

The final race on the card is a staying hurdle, where Irish raider GREAT TANGO ticks a lot of boxes. He should relish the underfoot conditions and has been a model of consistency in recent seasons, both over hurdles and on the flat.

GOODBYE DANCER is the other one to back as he ran really well behind the impressive First Assignment here last month. This horse missed all of last season, but was a course winner prior to that and looks to be getting his career back on track.

Betfair and Unibet are offering 4 places for each-way bets on this race.

Racebets Handicap Hurdle

The ITV cameras are also at Bangor for one race – another staying hurdle.

The contest looks to be between the unexposed Crixus’s Escape and VALADOM. Slight preference is for Valadom who has proven his stamina and caught the eye at Cheltenham last time out. He is very well treated over hurdles based on his best jumps form.
