Friday Horse Racing Tips

There are three graded races on the last day of the Leopardstown Christmas Festival including the Ryanair Hurdle.

Ryanair Hurdle

It has been a terrible few days for Willie Mullins and he will be desperately hoping Faugheen comes through his latest comeback race unscathed, but given the week he’s had this will seem like anything but a formality to the champion trainer and if the Machine does misfire the two who can take advantage are CAMPEADOR and CILAOS EMERY.

If you want an interest in the race then we’d suggest backing the pair each way

Neville Hotels Novice Chase

The day’s other grade 1 is a far more competitive heat and an attractive betting proposition with the dead eight set to go to post.

Staying novice chases can often throw up surprises and the two we like at bigger odds are BON PAPA and DINARIA DES OBEAUX. Both have won over two miles, but promise to be much better suited by a test like this.

We tipped Bon Papa for one of the novice hurdle events at the Cheltenham Festival last season, but he still looked immature that day and was unbalanced running down the hill. He should be a much stronger horse with another summer on his back and has always looked a chaser in the making.

The same is true of Dinaria Des Obeaux, who also gets a useful mares’ allowance here.

EBF Mares Hurdle

Speaking of mares, the other graded race is the EBF Mares Hurdle at 1.20pm and this race looks ripe for a shock with Let’s Dance seemingly plenty short enough in the market on ground that might be too soft for her.

KARALEE could easily bounce back to form and beat her stablemate today, whilst for those looking for one at a monster price MEGA MINDY is interesting.

She won on her debut in France before running behind a few of these at Punchestown last time out. She is entitled to come on for that effort and Alan Fleming is a decent handler who wouldn’t be throwing his mare in at this level if he didn’t think she could do herself justice.
