It was a great week for favourite backers on the PGA and European Tours – with Justin Thomas and Sergio Garcia both obliging for a double worth over 50/1.
Masters champion Garcia held off a strong challenge from Joost Luiten to successfully defend his title at the Valderrama Andalucia Masters – a tournament hosted by the Spaniard’s charitable foundation.
Meanwhile, Thomas won the inaugural edition of the CJ Cup in South Korea, eventually prevailing after an up and down week by beating Marc Leishman in a play-off and moving up to no.3 in the world rankings.
It was a third win in seven starts for the brilliant American, a run which includes his first major at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, while it was his sixth victory in just the last 12 months.
The twenty-four year old has been trimmed again for the first major of 2018, The Masters, with Ladbrokes, Coral and BetVictor offering the best price of 20/1. If he continues his current vein of form he will certainly go off shorter still.
