Arsenal are a top price of 10/3 with Paddy Power to win the Europa League after being paired with favourites Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals. For the Gunners, who survived a second leg scare in Moscow to see off CSKA in the quarter-finals, it was the toughest possible draw, with the other semi-final seeing Marseille take on Red Bull Salzburg.
With fourth place in the Premier League out of reach, the Europa League is Arsenal’s only possible route into next season’s Champions League, but a formidable Atletico side always looked likely to be the toughest obstacle in their path.
Diego Simeone’s side are second in La Liga after cruising to a 3-0 home win over Levante on Sunday and it is their home form that makes them such strong favourites. They are unbeaten in 16 league games in their new stadium this season and have conceded only four goals, while Sunday’s win was their 14th in 18 matches in all competitions. By way of contrast, Arsenal’s defeat at Newcastle was their eighth loss in 18 games. Atleti are 6/5 with Ladbrokes and William Hill to become the sixth Spanish winners of the competition in nine seasons, having twice won it themselves before Sevilla’s hat-trick of successes between 2014 and 2016.
