Lewis Hamilton leads the way in the Formula 1 Drivers Championship after claiming his first victory of the season at a chaotic Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Hamilton took full advantage of a late safety car after the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo sensationally collided as the Australian attempted to overtake his team-mate.
The world champion leads Sebastian Vettel by four points at the top of the standings, although it is the Ferrari driver who leads the betting after his car has proved to be faster during the opening weeks of the season.
Hamilton, who won his fourth world title last season, had been the ante-post favourite to win a fifth but the evidence of the first four races has led to a reappraisal from the bookmakers, with Bet365 pricing the British driver at best odds of 11/10. Vettel, who led the way for much of the race in Baku before finishing fourth after a late error, is the marginal favourite at Evens with Betfred, William Hill and BetVictor. The fifth race of the season is the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona in a fortnight’s time, before the Monaco Grand Prix two weeks later.
