Lewis Hamilton remains the 4/6* favourite with Ladbrokes to win the Formula One Drivers Championship despite having to settle for second place behind Sebastian Vettel in a thrilling British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Hamilton, who qualified on pole position and who was bidding for a record sixth victory at his home Grand Prix having won each of the last four, recovered brilliantly after a first-lap collision with Kimi Raikkonen left him at the back of the field. However, although his surge through the field was enough to limit Vettel’s lead in the standings to eight points, it wasn’t sufficient for him to mount a serious challenge to the German despite an exciting finish.
A late safety car brought the leading cars close together and Vettel took full advantage of having fresher tyres to overtake Valtteri Bottas five laps from home. Hamilton also eased past his team-mate, but Vettel held on comfortably for his second Silverstone victory. The German is a best price of 8/5* with Paddy Power to reclaim the world title with only the leading two drivers still in contention. The next race is the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim in a fortnight’s time, for which Hamilton is the early 13/8* favourite with Ladbrokes.
