Lewis Hamilton looks a certainty to win a fifth Formula One World Drivers’ Championship after his victory at the Russian Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver is now a best price of just 1/20* with Betfred to clinch the title after moving 50 points clear of Sebastian Vettel with just five races remaining.
However, his victory in Sochi came laced with controversy, with Hamilton benefitting from team orders for Valtteri Bottas to let him pass at the half way stage. Bottas went on to finish the race in second place, with Vettel completing the podium but falling further adrift in the title race.
The next race is in Japan next weekend, before the closing stretch of the season takes in Grand Prix in the USA, Mexico, Brazil and Abu Dhabi.
With one hand now firmly on the trophy, Hamilton has been cut by most firms to win this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. BetVictor are offering best odds of 12/1* for the 33-year-old to win the award for the second time, with his previous honour coming in 2014.
