Lewis Hamilton is now the clear favourite to win his fifth Formula One World Drivers’ Championship after a dominant performance in Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix.
The Mercedes driver won from pole position having controlled the race throughout, benefitting from a questionable strategy call from the team of his title rival Sebastian Vettel.
The German driver had questioned Ferrari’s decision to switch him to ultra-soft tyres after 14 laps and the decision ultimately cost him second place as he slipped down to third behind Max Verstappen.
That enabled Hamilton to take a 40-point lead in the standings with only six races left on the calendar and a maximum of 150 points at stake.
The next race is the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi in a fortnight’s time.
