Brentford striker Scott Hogan spent almost two years on the sidelines after suffering two serious cruciate knee ligament injuries after joining the club in the summer of 2014, but he returned to action for the final weeks of last season and scored seven goals in the last four games, despite starting only two of them.
The 24-year-old has hit the ground running this season too and his hat-trick in the 5-0 demolition of Preston at the weekend took his tally to six goals, leaving him level with Bristol City’s Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham at the top of the scoring charts.
Hogan has now scored 13 goals in his last 12 league games for the Bees and 20 in his last 25 including the end of his spell with his former club Rochdale, and at best odds of 8/1 with BetVictor he looks a better bet than the more fashionable market leader Dwight Gayle (7/1 with Bet365) in the Championship Top Goalscorer betting.
Gayle, who cost £10m from Crystal Palace in the summer, has 4 goals for Newcastle but has plenty more competition from the likes of Ayoze Perez, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Daryl Murphy and Yoan Gouffran.
