Hong Kong Open 2015 Tips

The final tournament of the regular season sees the European Tour return to the Hong Kong Golf Club, where Scott Hend is the defending champion and Justin Rose heads a strong field, which includes four-time winner Miguel Angel Jimenez and another former champion in Padraig Harrington. At 6,699 yards, the composite course made up of holes from the New and Eden Courses is not long, but good positioning off the tee is essential on the tree-lined fairways.

Justin Rose is the market leader at odds of 6/1 with Bet365, but there is another high profile player who is fancied to go well by the bookmakers, as Dustin Johnson makes a rare appearance on the European Tour – Paddy Power offer a top price of 9/1. Patrick Reed is another star of the PGA Tour who tees it up this week and he’s available at 20s with Coral, while Ryder Cup stars Graeme McDowell and Jimenez bolster the European challenge and can be backed at 22/1 and 28/1 respectively.

David HorseyDAVID HORSEY secured the fourth win of his career at the end of August and he’s had a couple of good weeks since, finishing third in Russia and tying for ninth place at the Alfred Dunhill Links. He’s making his first appearance in Hong Kong since finishing 15th here in 2012, having placed 21st a year earlier. Those results hint at a sustained challenge if he can hit top form again and he’s a good each-way bet at odds of 45/1 with Stan James.

MATTHEW-FITZPATRICKWe tipped MATTHEW FITZPATRICK to win the British Masters a fortnight ago on the basis of his strong recent form and his accuracy off the tee and he duly obliged, winning at odds of 35/1. He’s a much shorter price this week but he’s full of confidence and the conditions should suit the youngster who has now entered the World Top 100 for the first time, with a ranking of 61 – he looks worth backing win-only at odds of 16/1 with Coral.

Rikard KarlbergRIKARD KARLBERG enjoyed a fine end to the summer, with the highlight being his victory at the Open D’Italia a month ago. He followed that up with a top five finish at the Porsche European Open and he’s worth backing to make an impact again this week. He has something to build on too, having placed 24th and 20th on his last two visits to Hong Kong. Bet365 are offering a tempting best price of 55/1 (just 40/1 elsewhere).
