Injured Bairstow Misses Galle Test

England will be without wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow when they take on Sri Lanka in the first Test match in Galle on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old missed the last two one-day internationals after twisting his ankle while playing football during a training session and has not recovered in time to don the gloves in the first of a three-match series. It’s a big blow for England, who must choose between Jos Buttler and Ben Foakes to keep wicket as the series gets under way.

Buttler is England’s one-day keeper and has kept wicket in the longer format in the past, while Foakes has yet to win his first cap.

Sri Lanka, who are ranked the sixth best Test team, are marginal favourites to win a series that features further matches in Kandy and Colombo this month.

The hosts are a best price of 6/4* with BetVictor while England, ranked third, can be backed at 15/8* with Bet365.

Joe Root is the favourite to be England’s leading run scorer at 2/1* with Bet365 and BetVictor, while spinner Adil Rashid is the 11/4* favourite with Bet365 to take the most wickets for the tourists.
