Irish Eyes On World Cup Prize

The Premier League takes a break this weekend as the final qualification places for next summer’s World Cup are decided, with Northern Ireland attempting to qualify for their second successive tournament under the guidance of Michael O’Neill.

Coral make Michael O’Neill’s men an 11/4 chance to qualify at the expense of Switzerland and there’s plenty of cause for optimism after an impressive campaign, in which they claimed a play-off place ahead of the Czech Republic and Norway in a tough section.

Northern Ireland conceded only six goals in a group won with a 100 per cent record by world champions Germany, who were responsible for five of those six.

Switzerland gained nine wins from 10 games in their group, but aside from European champions Portugal they were up against poor quality opposition.

The Republic of Ireland are also outsiders against Denmark, at 11/8 to get through with Boylesports. Martin O’Neill’s side will prove stubborn opposition for the Danes, after going through qualifying unbeaten away from home, including wins in Austria and Wales. They are Evens with Bet365 to win or draw the first leg in Copenhagen.
