Russell Knox has been cut from 200/1 with Ladbrokes to a general best price of 66/1* to win The Open Championship after beating Ryan Fox in a play-off to win the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open in County Donegal. Knox shot a brilliant final round of 66 to share the lead with Fox at the Ballyliffin Links before claiming the title at the first extra hole to follow on from his share of second place at last week’s Open de France.
It marks a spectacular return to form for the Scot, who learned his trade playing links golf before switching to the PGA Tour after a scholarship in the United States. His victory comes almost two years since his last success, at the Travelers Championship in August 2016, a result that wasn’t quite enough to earn him a wildcard pick for that year’s Ryder Cup, when perhaps it should have done. The 33-year-old will now be hoping to build on a magnificent fortnight to force his way into the European team for this year’s Ryder Cup match, back at Le Golf National in Paris.
