Konta Targets Top Spot After Miami Win

johanna-kontaJohanna Konta has set her sights on becoming the world no.1 after beating Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets to win the Miami Open and move up to seventh in the rankings.

The British number one, who was ranked as low as 146 as recently as June 2015, has been one of the star players on the WTA Tour in 2017 and her odds have been shortening for all three of this summer’s Grand Slam tournaments.

She has been trimmed from 40/1 to 33/1 with Paddy Power for the French Open (as short as 20/1 elsewhere) and from 33/1 at the start of the year to a best of 16s for Wimbledon.

However, her game is best suited to hardcourts – she was a semi-finalist at the Australian Open last year and reached the last eight in January – and having reached the 4th round in each of the last two years her best opportunity may present itself at the US Open in August. Bet365 offer 18/1 (just 11/1 with Coral).
