Liverpool, who will have been delighted with their 0-1 win at Stoke last weekend, host Premier League new boys Bournemouth, who lost their first ever game in the top-flight by the same score at home to Aston Villa.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are available at best odds of 9/20 with Bet365 for Monday night’s televised game, while the Cherries can be backed at a huge looking 15/2 with BetVictor and the draw at a stand-out 19/5 with Betfred.

Generally speaking, the best time for promoted clubs to play established Premier League sides is in the first few weeks or the last few weeks of any season, and over the years we have seen some shocks at these times of the season.

Bournemouth certainly look overpriced here – we suggest being with them on the Asian Handicap +1 goal at 11/9 with BetVictor. This way you win if they win or draw and get your stake back if they lose by one goal – you only lose if Liverpool win by 2+ goals, which they only did four times at Anfield last season. Indeed, they only scored more than two goals twice in 19 home games.

The sides actually met last season in the quarter finals of the League Cup and while Bournemouth lost 3-1 at home, they managed 13 shots to Liverpool’s 16 and they will psychologically be up for the biggest of many of the players’ careers.

Bournemouth’s manager, Eddie Howe, enjoys playing good attacking football and his side had more possession than their opponents (58%) on the opening day.

Thus, given that there were no goals in either of their season openers until the 72nd minute and that both sides enjoy possession football, our best bet of the game is to back the first goal coming after the 25th minute with Paddy Power at odds of 10/11.

Last season the Reds failed to score at home against Sunderland (0-0), Hull (0-0) and Villa (0-1), and 5 of their home games against the bottom-six had two goals or less.

So, we also suggest backing the 1-0 to both sides with Bet365, with the insurance that they refund losing Correct Score bets on all games that finish goalless.

Finally, let’s back Christain Benteke to score a goal at any time in the game at 11/10 with Stan James (as short as 8/11 elsewhere). The Belgian scored 11 goals for Villa in their final 11 games of last season and will be desperate to get off the mark here.

We also suggest backing Bournemouth’s main goalscorer, Callum Wilson, at best odds of 10/1 with Ladbrokes, who will pay double the odds on First Goalscorer bets in all televised Premier League games – if that goal is scored in the first 25 minutes.
