November Meeting – Sunday Tips

The action at Cheltenham this afternoon starts with a conditional jockeys hurdle over 2m 5f and a large field is set to go to post on what is now predominantly good ground.

Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle

This looks the trickiest race on the card, but for those wanting to try to get the day off to a flyer we’d suggest each way investments in two potential improvers – PALMERS HILL and THE DELLERCHECKOUT. Both were bought for huge sums of money after winning point to points, and both will surely go on to better things at some point.

The ground should suit them and The Dellercheckout also had a wind operation over the summer after some breathing issues last year.

Racing Post Arkle Trophy Trial Novices’ Chase

The Graded races follow with a pair of two mile chases up next.

The first is the Arkle Trophy Trial, where CLAIMANTAKINFORGAN looks the most solid option. He won on his comeback and has run well here in the past including when third in the 2017 Bumper and fifth in last year’s Supreme.

Defi Du Seuil could easily bounce back to form, just as his yard has done this winter, and is a threat but, like Lalo and Pingshou, he may need further in time.

Shloer Chase

Nicky Henderson has a big chance in the Shloer Chase too, courtesy of Brain Power. This horse is talented, but a bit eccentric, and he may prefer going right handed and/or a flat track.

On that basis, preference is for SCEAU ROYAL and Le Prezien, and the former just gets the nod on the basis that he will probably be more suited by the ground and was probably the best two mile novice last season this side of the Irish sea.

Le Prezien is a real threat as he is race fit after a recent outing over hurdles. Paul Nicholls also seems to have found the key to him based on how well he won the Grand Annual here last season.

Unibet Greatwood Handicap Hurdle

The day’s big betting heat is the Greatwood Hurdle, where Henderson’s Verdana Blue heads the market. She has her favoured conditions, and isn’t far off Champion Hurdle quality, but has to give weight to all bar one of her rivals.

At the other end of the handicap, DEVRANN DE CARJAC looks better value for last year’s winning stable. He’s unexposed and ran into a good one at Chepstow last time out (Pym franked the form with a solid effort here on Friday). He looks to have the right profile for the race.

So too does NUBE NEGRA, whose a strong travelling type that should be suited by the run of this race. His handler, Dan Skelton, couldn’t be in better form and he does really well in this sort of contest.

That means NOT THAT FUISSE should also be respected and he may prove to be the pick of those at big prices.

Supreme Trial Novices’ Hurdle

In the Supreme Trial Novices’ Hurdle ELIXIR DE NUTZ looks the value after a decent effort here on his last start. He looks to have Seddon to beat.
