Having posted a record score on their way to victory in the One-Day Cup on Saturday, Hampshire are among the leading contenders for the Natwest T20 Blast, which gets under way on Thursday. Hampshire posted 330-7 in their 50 overs, the highest ever total in a final at Lord’s, as they defeated Kent by 61 runs and having reached the semi-finals of the 20-over competition last season they will be confident of enjoying another good run this time around.
Defending champions Nottinghamshire Outlaws, who eliminated Hampshire before beating the Birmingham Bears in the final, are the marginal favourites for the 2018 edition, having also finished top of the North Division last year with a record of eight wins and four losses from their 14 matches in the group stage. The Outlaws are at 7/1* with Ladbrokes and Coral, with the South Division trio of Sussex, Hampshire and Surrey all available at 8/1*. Yorkshire, who missed out on the Knockout Stage last season, are seen by the bookmakers as Nottinghamshire’s chief rivals in the North Division, at odds of 10/1* with Bet365, Ladbrokes and Coral. Their opening batsman Adam Lyth smashed 161 against Northants last August – the highest score in the competition by a distance and the third highest ever in T20 cricket.
