After winning only one of their first 14 league games, in which they scored only 10 goals, Plymouth Argyle were looking like certainties to be relegated from League One after just one season.
However, manager Derek Adams has overseen a remarkable transformation in their fortunes, with the Pilgrims winning 10 of their last 14 matches, including each of the last five, to move to within a point of the play-off places. By mid-October they had taken just seven points, but in 20 games since then they have amassed a further 43 and they have considerable momentum going into the business end of the season, having beaten both Blackburn and leaders Shrewsbury in the last few weeks.
Their promotion odds have been sent tumbling, from 200/1 with Ladbrokes at the start of February to a best price of just 20/1 with BetVictor now. They have played more games than most of their rivals, but they still have to face the three teams immediately above and beneath them, giving them the opportunity to make ground at their expense.
