Winners may have been hard to come by at the Irish track yesterday, but there was no shortage of quality and Don Cossack put up an immense performance to land the Punchestown Gold Cup.
Ladbrokes World Series Hurdle
Things don’t look any easier for punters on day three, where the feature race is the Ladbrokes World Series Hurdle, which sees another clash between old rivals Hurricane Fly and Jezki.
They are a class above their opponents here, but neither has proven stamina and so they have to be taken on from a punting perspective.
With that in mind, the each way value looks to be THOUSAND STARS, whose form at this Festival down the years reads 83232. He ran well on his comeback behind Dedigout and can turn that form around with that effort under his belt.
At an even bigger price, ZABANA also makes some appeal after his fine effort in the Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival recently. The ground should be very much in his favour and he looks to be a young horse on the rise.
|Thousand Stars (ew)||5.30 Punchestown||12/1||Sky Bet, BetVictor, William Hill|
|Zabana (ew)||5.30 Punchestown||20/1||Ladbrokes, Stan James|
Ryanair Novice Chase
Un De Sceaux would appear unbeatable in the day’s other Grade 1, the Ryanair Novices’ Chase, but the race for second place looks more wide open than the betting suggests and it may be worth having a few quid on TED VEALE at 66/1 with BetVictor or Stan James, as he could easily make the frame or even take the prize itself if anything happens to the favourite.
He may prove to have more speed over this trip than Melodic Rendezvous and Just Cameron, and the race should be run to suit.
|Ted Veale (ew)||6.40 Punchestown||66/1||BetVictor, Stan James|
Orchid Transport Mares Novice Hurdle
The Mares Novice Hurdle that follows is interesting as a horse we tipped last time out, and who just got beaten in the big mares’ novices handicap at Newbury recently, returns to action.
HANNAH’S PRINCESS travelled like much the best horse in that Newbury race and so the drop back in trip shouldn’t harm her. She can hopefully prove a cut above the home challenge, which could be headed by KABJOY.
Jessica Harrington’s mare is a nice price (Ladbrokes are offering a standout 16/1) considering the decent effort she put in on the flat last time out – an outing that was surely designed to put her spot on for this.
|Hannah’s Princess (ew)||7.15 Punchestown||5/1||Ladbrokes, BetVictor|
|Kabjoy (ew)||7.15 Punchestown||16/1||Ladbrokes|
FBD Cross Country Chase For The La Touche Cup
The Le Touch Cup is always one of the meeting’s highlights and everything looks right for QUANTITATIVEEASING to finally land one of these big banks races.
He was so unlucky at Cheltenham last time when he was carried out at the second last. He was travelling like the winner at the time and has a nice swing in the weights with both Rivage D’or and Dogora, who finished first and fourth.
|Quantitativeeasing (win)||4.50 Punchestown||6/4||Sky Bet|
Three ie Handicap Chase
Finally, in the big handicap chase over two miles, we like USA and BOLD HENRY.
|USA (ew)||4.15 Punchestown||11/1||Coral, Stan James|
|Bold Henry (ew)||4.15 Punchestown||12/1||Bet365, Titanbet|
