Reds 9/2 For Title After Breaking Bank For Alisson

Liverpool have been a popular selection in the Premier League title betting after sealing a deal for Roma and Brazil ‘keeper Alisson last week. The Reds, who spent £75m on Virgil Van Dijk in January to solve their long-standing weakness in the centre of defence, almost doubled the previous world record transfer fee for a goalkeeper to end their search for a long-term first choice between the sticks.

With Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius both proving themselves to be unreliable – spectacularly so in the case of the German in last season’s Champions League final – a move for a new ‘keeper was essential for Jurgen Klopp to turn his side into title contenders. Given their 5-1 aggregate victory over Manchester City in the last eight of the Champions League, they now look well-placed to mount a serious challenge to Pep Guardiola’s side.

Since Allison’s signing, William Hill and Coral have trimmed their price of 5/1 and Liverpool are now at 9/2* pretty much across the board.
