Venue

The RSM Classic, previously known as the McGladrey Classic, has been on the PGA Tour schedule since 2010 and is played at the Sea Island Resort in St Simons Island, Georgia. The par 70 Seaside course, which was first opened in 1929, measures in at a touch over 7,000 yards and features mature trees, several water hazards and large areas of boggy marshland. For the past two years the tournament has also involved one round played on the resort’s par 72 Plantation Course, but for this edition, as was the case in 2014, only the Seaside course will be in use. Mackenzie Hughes claimed his first PGA Tour title here last year, with Kevin Kisner, Robert Streb and Chris Kirk the other recent champions.

Favourites

With the PGA Tour’s leading players taking an extended break, there’s no clear market leader this week, with the honour just going to 2015 champion Kisner at best odds of 20/1 with Unibet. Matt Kuchar, Brian Harman and Webb Simpson are all at 22/1, with Charles Howell a 25/1 chance after a couple of good performances on his last two visits. Howell shared fourth place in Mexico at the weekend.

Tips

Scott BrownSCOTT BROWN has been showing some good form of late, making the cut on each of his last eight starts and finishing inside the top six at two of his last three tournaments. His three-month purple patch has lifted him up 49 places in the world rankings to the fringe of the top 100 and he can take more confidence from his only appearance here – when he shared 18th place a couple of years ago. He’s 55/1 with Unibet.

Russell KnoxRUSSELL KNOX has lost his way a somewhat since narrowly missing out on a place in last year’s European Ryder Cup team, but there are signs that he is finding his way back into form and four sub-70 rounds earned him a share of ninth place in Mexico over the weekend. He was in the world’s top 20 as recently as February and has something to build on this week. Take a chance on him at the stand-out odds of 66/1 on offer with Unibet (50/1 elsewhere).

John OdaFor our third selection this week we’ll be taking an each-way punt on an outsider. JOHN ODA turned professional at the end of August and had to bide his time for an opportunity on the PGA Tour, but when it came he grabbed him with both hands – sharing eighth place in Mexico at the weekend. The 21-year-old former College golf star from Hawaii was rewarded with a place in this event, and is a 200/1 shot at Coral, who are offering 7 places for each-way bets.
