Saturday Horse Racing Tips

Today looks set to be one of the quieter Saturday’s for racing fans, but there are a couple of opportunities to get some ammunition in the bank ahead of Aintree.

totescoop6 Handicap Hurdle

Kelso deserves credit for staging a valuable card and the first decent betting opportunity comes in the handicap hurdle at 2.25pm.

It is a big afternoon at the Scottish track for northern trainers like Sue Smith, Donald McCain, Nicky Richards and Sandy Thompson, and we think Smith can take the honours here with TRESHNISH, who seems to need a stiff two miles to be at his best. The heavy ground will make this a real test and that will play to this youngster’s strengths.

The big danger could be UBALTIQUE for McCain as he looks well treated over hurdles based on his jumps form. He goes well with plenty of give underfoot.

Paddy Power and Betfair are both offering 4 places for each-way bets on this race.

Liz Adam Memorial Handicap Chase

Smith’s horses also look worth following in the Liz Adam Memorial Chase where BLAKEMOUNT can prove the pick of her pair. He blew up last time out off of the back of a long absence and should strip fitter here. He is well handicapped and goes off the same mark as when successful at this trip at Carlisle last year.

Yala Enki and Baywing are worthy favourites, but the other one to back is southern raider, CHIC NAME. This horse has a lovely low weight and with crack conditional James Bowen set to take another 3lbs off his back he can follow up a career best effort last time out when fifth in the Cross Country at the Festival.

Edinburgh Gin Handicap Hurdle

The final race from Kelso on ITV is a staying hurdle and Nick Richards has two big chances here. Preference is for TAKINGRISKS who returns to hurdles after an impressive win in a staying chase last time out. He is well treated now returning to the smaller obstacles based on that effort.

Don’t rule out the bottom weight either as LETMEGO has been very impressive in winning three races this year. He has his conditions today and shouldn’t be underestimated.

There is also action from the all weather at Kempton on terrestrial TV and the best bet there may prove to be A MOMENTOFMADNESS in the 2.05pm. He won the race last year and had a nice pipe opener behind Tomily a fortnight ago.
