Saturday Horse Racing Tips

There is something for everyone on Haydock’s mixed card today including the Swinton Hurdle, which is becoming established as the first big race of each new jumping campaign.

Pertemps Network Swinton Handicap Hurdle

The key form guide to the race could be the Scottish Champion Hurdle, where Chesterfield was third and the THE UNIT seventh. The latter was staying on strongly in the closing stages that day and, although he probably needs slightly further to be at his best, a strongly run race on this sort of ground is right up his street.

Back on a flat track, the main danger could be CAPITAINE, who also bounces off this sounder surface. He found little up the Cheltenham hill last time out, but travelled strongly for much of that race and looks well treated over hurdles based on his novice chase form last season.

The other big handicap hurdle on the card is over 2m 6f at 2.00pm and it is interesting to see Irish raider JUST JANICE back on this ground after a decent effort on it at Cheltenham last time out. She is a King’s Theatre mare out of a Presenting mare, so it was perhaps no surprise to see her improve for the change in conditions and she also looks ready for this step up in trip.

Debece is a rightfully at the head of the market after a good effort at Aintree last time out, whilst Wolf Of Windlesham also ran well after a long layoff at Sandown recently. Either could “bounce” though and so preference at bigger prices is for LAURIUM, who comes here after a wind op, and ENNISCOFFEY OSCAR, who was staying on in the closing stages behind Wolf Of Windlesham to suggest he needs this stiffer stamina test.

Les Ambassadeurs Casino Handicap

Over at Ascot, two big field handicaps dominate the card from a punting perspective.

The first is over a mile and a half at 2.15pm and the race looks wide open.

With his yard amongst the winners, and with him having conditions to suit, C’EST NO MOUR could be worth an interest at a big price. He had a pipe opener at Epsom recently and his finishing position there can be ignored as he blew the start from a terrible draw.

The other speculative selection is WESTERN DUKE who, as a four year old, should still be improving. His is another yard in good form.

Paddy Power are offering 4 places for each-way bets on this race.

Victoria Cup

The Victoria Cup is at 4.00pm and Keyser Soze is clearly the one to beat. His price is short enough though especially as his low draw may be a negative.

At bigger prices we would suggest taking him on with RIPP OFF, for a yard that excels in this type of race, ESCOBAR, who will surely be winning again soon for a new trainer who always seems to improve this sort of horse, and his stablemate, FIRMAMENT, who seems to save his best for Ascot.

Also look out for Louise De Palma. Connections have preserved with him for a reason and four years of patience could pay off today with conditions to suit.

Betfred Derby Trial Stakes

There are two Classic trials at Lingfield and in the colts contest take a chance on KNIGHT TO BEHOLD. He looked a good staying prospect in two starts over a mile last season and is certainly bred to relish this trip. The quiet form of his yard is the only negative.
