Saturday Horse Racing Tips

The continued dry spell has led to a number of small fields across today’s televised cards from Warwick and Kempton.

Hampton Novices’ Chase

There are just four runners in the opening ITV race from Warwick – a novice chase over 3 miles. The conditions may not suit the strong stayer, Ok Corral, and he looks vulnerable against three rivals who all have claims in this listed contest.

Jumping is at a premium here when the ground is like this and that will suit the bang in form ROCKY’S TREASURE, who looks to have a massive chance of making it five wins from his last six starts, whilst those after a more exotic bet might consider including him in a reverse forecast with the outsider of the quarter, White Moon, who is the most likely to show significant improvement today.

Ballymore Leamington Novices’ Hurdle

The Leamington that follows has only attracted a field of six and, in the hope of a surprise, we think it is worth backing the two outsiders, CHAMPAGNE COURT and FINAWN BAWN.

The key is the trip, as both could improve markedly now covering this longer distance and both should handle the ground okay. The fact that they hail from slightly less fashionable yards means their prices could be inflated here.

Of the market principles, Stoney Mountain looks the big danger.

Classic Handicap Chase

The Classic Chase follows over 3m 5f and this looks a good race for punters to get stuck into with thirteen runners set to line-up.

Step Back is likely to make this a real test and the winner will need to get into a good rhythm with his jumping. Given the way the race could pan out the one who appeals most is DUEL AT DAWN who gets weight from most of his rivals. He will enjoy the ground having struggled on heavy last time out and he ran well as a novice here last season.

There are plenty of others to consider and CALETT MAD surely has a big staying contest in him this season. This trip should be ideal as he just got outstayed over four miles last time out.

The outsiders to consider are the Colin Tizzard pair of SIZING CODELCO and Ultragold and given that the latter seems to reserve his best for the Grand National fences these days slight preference is for the former for a yard that does so well with its staying chasers.

Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle

There’s a Pertemps Qualifier to close proceedings at the Midland’s track and the one to beat here is LUNGARNO PALACE, who has been a model of consistency under rules and who could find more improvement for this longer trip.

The Warren Greatrex pair could prove the biggest threat to our selection and given that Ritual Of Sense might need the run we’d suggest backing KEEPER HILL, who looks to have his ideal conditions. He surely has more to offer now back over hurdles.

Unibet Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle

The Kempton action kicks off with a Listed Chase that could be set up for Top Notch by front runners Charbel and Black Corton. However, it might make sense to keep your powder dry until the day’s big betting heat, the Lanzarote.

The race is full of improving types and we are going to give another chance to LORD NAPIER, who was down the field for us in a very valuable handicap hurdle last time out. That was over two miles and he stayed on close home that day, suggesting he needs this longer trip.

Doux Prentender looks a danger if on his best behaviour today, but at a bigger price the other one to back is SOLOMON GREY in the first time tongue tie. He was a decent novice last season and given that connections have gone straight for the tongue tie something was probably amiss when he flopped on his comeback.

Race sponsors Unibet are offering 4 places for each-way bets.

Unibet Handicap Chase

The other televised race from Kempton is a three mile handicap chase that looks likely to go the way of BALLYKAN, who’ll love the decent ground.

If MINELLA DADDY can bounce back to form he could give Peter Bowen a memorable afternoon as he’ll hopefully be looking for a quickfire double after Lord Napier takes the Lanzarote! He is worth backing too.
