Saturday Horse Racing Tips

It is Scottish Grand National day at Ayr where the ground has dried out to good.

Coral Scottish Grand National Handicap Chase

That will suit last year’s fourth, DOING FINE, who looks to have been laid out for this. He is a proven stayer, who must have decent ground to be at his best. Crucially, he has had a wind operation since his last run and that could bring about the necessary improvement.

Another one we like is a horse that did us a massive favour when winning at a big price on this card 12 months ago, CROSSHUE BOY. Again, the ground has come right for him and he ran well over hurdles last time out.

Of the outsiders, ARTHURS SECRET catches our eye for a man who has a good record in this race, Nigel Twiston-Davies. His novices have often run well in this contest before and, being by Presenting, this ground might bring out the best in him. He looks an out an out stayer.

BetVictor are paying 6 places for each way bets on this race.

Scotty Brand Handicap Chase

The action at the Scottish track kicks off with a handicap chase over 2 miles, which can go the way of trainer of the moment, Gordon Elliott. His VEINARD is a strong travelling type who should relish the way this race is likely to be run.

It will also be interesting to see if DANDRIDGE can recapture his old form for his new yard on his second run since a wind op.

J & D Pierce Novices’ Champion Handicap Chase

A novices’ chase follows, and the step up to three miles could be the making of AZZERTI here. He ran well to finish seventh in the Plate last time out, but should be even more at home in this company.

The main danger is ONEFORTHEROADTOM, who finally looked to be finding his form over fences when second at Kempton last time out. The longer trip today will suit him too.

CPMS Scottish Champion Hurdle

The Scottish Champion Hurdle is next and Verdana Blue and BRAIN POWER look to have a massive class edge here. We are going to give the super talented, but often disappointing, Brain Power one more chance on ground that should suit.

Further down the handicap CAPTAIN MOIRETTE, for last year’s winning connections, stands out as he is a fast improving novice.

Paddy Power are offering 4 places for each-way bets on this race.

Spring Cup Handicap

The day’s big betting heat on the flat is the Spring Cup at Newbury.

Here we are going to give another chance to RIPP ORF, who we strongly fancied for the Lincoln. He was a creditable fifth there, but can strip fitter this afternoon.

RED STARLIGHT is an obvious danger after a fine showing on the same Doncaster card as the Lincoln, whilst WAFY is unexposed for the in-form Charles Hills. Being by Dubawi he looks just the type to improve this season.

Paddy Power are offering 6 places on each-way bets on this race.
