Saturday Horse Racing Tips

Today’s feature card is at Kempton where there are likely to be some final Festival clues ahead of the big meeting at Cheltenham, which is now just over a fortnight away.

Adonis Juvenile Hurdle

One of the key trials could prove to be the Adonis, which has often proved a good guide to the Triumph Hurdle in the past. This afternoon’s renewal could easily throw up the biggest home trained challenger for the juvenile championship or, perhaps more likely, the winner of the Fred Winter.

The one we like is PROTEKTORAT, who surely has more to offer than he has shown for Dan Skelton so far. He was second in a valuable hurdle in France before moving to England and Skelton should be ready to get the best out of him now.

There are also a number of outsiders with potential including NEEDS TO BE SEEN, who ran much better than his odds suggested he would in a hot race at Cheltenham last time out. He may be underestimated due to his unfashionable connections, whilst PAGERO couldn’t have stronger connections and should be capable of better on his second start for Jonjo O’Neill.

Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle

Needs To Be Seen’s trainer, John Ryan, also has an interesting outsider in the Dovecote, in the shape of NORMAL NORMAN who will relish the decent ground at the Sunbury circuit. He could make the frame at a massive price, although all eyes will be on hot favourite, Angels Breath, who is prominent in the betting for the Supreme.

The worry is whether he’ll be better over further and his speed will be tested in these conditions. With that question mark hanging over him we would rather take a chance on his stablemate, DAPHNE DU CLOS, who ran well on her comeback from injury recently. She has always been well thought of by her powerful yard.

888Sport Handicap Chase

The day’s big chase is the 888Sport Handicap, where all ten runners can be given some sort of chance in what looks a cracking renewal.

Of the fancied runners, TALKISCHEAP catches the eye on his first start out of novice company. He has been running consistently well all season and looks well handicapped.

A couple of outsiders are also worthy of support – ROMAIN DE SENAM, who will love the ground for the bang in-form Paul Nicholls, and DIDERO VALLIS, who has done well since moving to Venetia Williams and who looks to have more improvement in him over the larger obstacles.

Didero Vallis (ew)3.35 Kempton20/1Bet365

Vertem Eider Handicap Chase

The big race up at Newcastle is the Eider over the marathon trip of four miles. We are going to take a chance here with the very inexperienced JUST YOUR TYPE. That lack of experience is a worry, but he looks very well handicapped and the trip has always looked likely to suit given his style of racing.

The main danger is KIMBERLITE CANDY, who ran an excellent trial for this at Sandown last time out. He would prefer softer ground, but the longer trip should compensate and make that less of an issue.

Of those at bigger prices, POTTERS CORNER looks progressive for an Evan Williams that has been firing in some winner recently.
