Saturday Horse Racing Tips

Kelso stages its richest day’s racing today and three competitive handicaps dominate the card.

Bernhard Lighting Rig Handicap Hurdle

First up is a two mile hurdle, where SAINT LEO is an interesting runner for the excellent Sandy Thomson. This horse had some good form in France and looked likely to win over fences at Ayr last time out before tipping up. If he handles the ground he could surprise a few here now back over the smaller obstacles.

The other one to back is CHAMPAGNE CITY, who has been very consistent all season, and has won over course and distance for a trainer that has a fine record with his raiders here.

Betfair are offering 4 places for each-way bets on this race.

Liz Adam Memorial Handicap Chase

The staying chase that follows can go to the in-form SOME CHAOS who can improve again for the extra quarter of a mile here, while Sandy Thomson’s CAPARD KING is pick of the outsiders.

Claud And Goldie is next best.

Paxtons Exclusively Kverneland Handicap Hurdle

Another Thomson runner, SEEMORELIGHTS, will take all the beating in the staying hurdle at 3.35pm.

This horse would have won at Ayr last time out in a very competitive race, but for falling at the last.

BURROWS PARK could be the main danger if over his recent exertions in the Martin Pipe at the Festival.

Insure With Be Wiser Handicap Chase

There are also three races on ITV from Newbury starting with a staying chase at 2.05pm.

A number of these looks like they might prefer softer ground, so it may be worth taking a chance with MARCHILHAC for Venetia Williams, who is one of the best trainers of handicap chasers around.

This horse disappointed on his reappearance here three weeks ago, but you can forgive any horse one bad run and he may have needed the race. He looks way over-priced if back to his best.

The same is true of Ziga Boy, who has a similar profile to Marchilhac and is also worth a second look, but a safer option might be STRONG PURSUIT who is lightly raced and will love the ground. He looks well treated on the best of his form over hurdles and has won here before. The Hobbs yard is in good form currently.

Be Wiser Insurance Juvenile Handicap Hurdle

There’s a handicap for juveniles next and the one who really catches the eye is LEGAL HISTORY off of 10st. He will surely improve significantly now upped in trip as he showed a decent level of form as a stayer on the flat.

There’s a chance that BRANDY JAMES could also relish the extra distance this afternoon and if so he could easily outrun his monster price. He looks well treated based on early season form with Idilico and Ghost Serge, and will be fit after a comeback run here at the start of the month.

William Hill are offering a huge 6 places for each-way bets on this race.

EBF Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle Series Final

The big race at the Berkshire track is the EBF Mares Final and we are going to back two horses for trainer who have a good record in the race and with mares generally.

First up is MILLARVILLE, who runs in a handicap for the first time. Richard Johnson is an interesting jockey booking for this former point to point winner who has been crying out for this longer trip.

SIXTY’S BELLE also looks a strong stayer and is dangerously well handicapped on a mark of just 111.

Oscar Rose would be a big threat if on a going day.

Paddy Power are offering 5 places for each-way bets on this race.
