Saturday Horse Racing Tips

It’s the time of the year when the flat and jumps worlds collide and there is top class action at Cheltenham and Doncaster this afternoon.

Matchbook Betting Exchange Handicap Chase

The Prestbury Park card starts with a staying chase, with plenty of focus on the bottom horse, FOR GOOD MEASURE, who could be incredibly well treated. He’ll relish the ground too, but the downside is his lack of experience, so he may just be worth backing to win to cover your stakes on some bigger priced rivals.

Another good ground performer is BRAQUEUR D’OR for the inform Paul Nicholls. This horse was fourth in the Ladbrokes Chase last season as a novice and connections will be keen to make hay while he has his ground. He also had a wind op during the close season.

The other one to back is RELENTLESS DREAMER.

2017/8 was a season to forget for Rebecca Curtis until her Scottish National triumph, but the yard has started the new campaign well and this horse is a proven stayer who should be suited by the stiff finish here.

Randox Health Handicap Chase

The four year old hurdle that follows looks a race to avoid from a punting perspective, so instead save your ammunition for BIGMARTE in the Randox Health Handicap Chase.

Harry Whittingdon is one of the up and coming jumps trainers and this horse was a high class novice last season. He loves to front run, and so is suited by small fields, and hopefully won’t be distracted by the other front runner in the line-up, Foxtail Hill.

Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle

There is a Pertemps Qualifier at 3.45pm and the race looks almost as competitive as the final will be.

We always like the angle of an Irish runner looking for better ground in races like these and DAWN RAIDER fits the bill here. He also has the not inconsiderable assistance of Barry Geraghty being on board. Three miles on this ground looks perfect for him.

There are dangers everywhere including Theclockisticking, but he is yet to prove he stays this far.

A better option, therefore, might be the proven course performer, THE EAGLEHASLANDED. He ran only once last season, but has his ground and is well treated if back to his best.

At an even bigger price, the chances of THE MIGHTY DON seem to have been underestimated. He was a model of consistency last season and, again, he may be at his best on a decent surface like this.

General Consensus is another interesting one to note

Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes

Over at Doncaster the feature is the last Group 1 of our flat season, the Vertem Futurity Trophy, and we can’t resist tipping a two year old who is fast developing into a favourite of ours – PHOENIX OF SPAIN.

We’ve backed him on his last two starts, where he has finished first and second, and this mile trip should be right up his street – as will the softish ground.

At a bigger price, also back KING OTTOKAR each way. His handler, Charlie Fellowes, thinks the world of him and given that his two year olds usually improve plenty for their debut it was interesting to see this horse win first time out. He was well backed that day too

sunracing Handicap

The big betting heat at Town Moor is the 5f sprint that precedes the big one and SIR ROBERT CHEVAL is an interesting runner here. He’s well handicapped and has looked to be running into form recently.

Another horse who is tumbling down the weights is DUKE OF FIRENZE and he could make his presence felt too as conditions are ideal. He also showed signs of his old sparkle at Carlisle last time out.
