Saturday Horse Racing Tips

It is the last day of the jump season today and the ITV cameras will be there to cover the action from Sandown, where Paul Nicholls and Richard Johnson will again be crowned champion trainer and champion jockey respectively.

bet365 Novices’ Championship Final Handicap Hurdle

Both have plenty of chances of celebrating their achievements with a final winner or two and we’d suggested supporting Johnson’s mount in the opener, SCARLET DRAGON. He is the classiest flat performer in the field and so this quick ground should suit him, and his yard wasn’t in the best of form when he disappointed last time out at Kempton. Alan King is firing in the winners now and the uphill finish here should suit.

There are plenty of dangers about including Cause Toujours who slipped up when carrying our money last week, but the two to back at bigger prices are FLASH OF STEEL and PETIT PALAIS. The former has been running well all season and looks the type to relish these big field handicaps whilst the latter is unexposed for a yard that is returning to form.

bet365 Oaksey Chase

The Grade 2 Oaksey Chase follows and it is no surprise that Definitely Red is a non-runner given the ground. That make the race slightly less attractive for each way punters, but the two to focus on are GO CONQUER and SAN BENEDETO.

Go Conquer ran well for a long way in the National and this could be the perfect trip for a horse that loves to go from the front.

San Benedeto loves this ground and so is worth chancing even though he has yet to prove he stays this far. He also seems to come good at this time of the year, as shown by his second place in last season’s Celebration Chase behind Altior.

bet365 Celebration Chase

The mighty Altior goes again in that race this year as he seeks to beat Big Buck’s record 18 consecutive wins. He deserves to do it, but is no price for the ordinary punter and this trip, on this ground may not play to his strengths. It is, therefore, worth backing SCEAU ROYAL against Altior as that horse gave him a fright when conditions were less favourable for him in the Queen Mother.

GODS OWN could also run a big race with conditions to suit. A reverse forecast including those two could yield a healthy return.

bet365 Gold Cup Handicap Chase

The big race – the Bet365 Gold Cup – is next and TALKISCHEAP can seal a big day for Alan King with a win here. He is only a novice, but can improve for the step up in trip and, crucially, he has winning form on good and good to firm ground. He disappointed slightly in a big handicap at Kempton last time out but, as we have already said, his stable was slightly out of form at the time.

At a bigger price, ROLLING DYLAN make plenty of appeal. He handles the ground and stamina has always looked to be his forte.

Give Me a Copper looks the main danger.
