Saturday Horse Racing Tips

Although the ITV cameras are at both Doncaster and Newbury this afternoon, the race of the day takes place in Ireland in the shape of the Ryanair Hurdle.

Ryanair Hurdle

After being brushed aside so dismissively by Buveur D’Air in the Fighting Fifth it is interesting to see connections keeping Samcro over hurdles for now, but he faces another tough assignment today with Champion Hurdle runner up, Melon, amongst those set to take him on.

It is a shame there are only seven runners and not eight, but we still think there is each way value in the ultra-versatile SUPASUNDAE, who seldom seems to run a bad race whether he is trying his luck over two miles, three miles or anything in between.

He actually seems to be getting faster with age and so a strong run two miles, which we should get here with Samcro in the line-up, should be perfect.

Betway Heed Your Hunch Handicap Hurdle

The action at Newbury kicks off at 1.50pm with a handicap hurdle that can hopefully go the way of KNIGHT IN DUBAI.

He actually ran behind Samcro at last season’s Cheltenham Festival and the pick of his form saw him finish close up behind Mr Whipped and Paisley Park in a Grade 2 at Warwick.

If he can get back to that level of form here he should play a major part in proceedings. He had a wind operation in the summer and is back over hurdles after a fall on his seasonal / chase debut.

Betway Mandarin Handicap Chase

Next up is the Mandarin Chase, which used to be a much more illustrious contest than it is now, and the one to back is BALLYDINE, who looks less exposed than many of his rivals.

He looked a chaser to follow when winning for us at Sandown in February and ran well enough on his comeback at Newcastle recently. He seems to stay well and he should now be spot on, fitness wise.

Betway Challow Novices’ Hurdle

The day’s big race is the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle at 3.00pm, where Champ is clearly the one to beat after an impressive win here in a handicap last time out.

However, his price looks plenty short enough and better value lies with BREWIN’UPASTORM, who should relish the step up in trip today. He was a decent bumper horse last season and showed his potential when winning over an inadequate trip of two miles on his first start over hurdles three weeks ago.

Coolanly is the other one to consider.

Betway Novices’ Handicap Chase

The action at the Berkshire track closes with a novices’ handicap chase, where we like ONEFITZALL and WILDE BLUE YONDER.

The former makes his first start for Nicky Henderson, whilst the latter is surely better than his current handicap mark – he just needs to put in a clear round, which is something he’s been struggling to do over hurdles.

MansionBet Handicap Chase

Up at Doncaster the ground is on the lively side as usual and that should really suit STATION MASTER who surely has a massive chance in the handicap chase at 1.30pm.

He was very well backed when second to The Young Master at Cheltenham last time out and connections have found a much easier opportunity for him here.

MansionBet Yorkshire Silver Vase Mares’ Chase

A very valuable mares’ listed chase follows and the class act is RENE’S GIRL, who has won here before and who was a fine second in a Grade 1 novices’ chase at Aintree’s Grand National meeting.

She has been pitched in at the deep end in two starts so far this season and should find things easier back against her own sex today.
