Saturday Horse Racing Tips

There is so much racing on terrestrial TV today it is hard to know where to start when trying to find winners. The feature race has to be the Racing Post Trophy, even though the more interesting card for punters is arguably the one at Cheltenham.

Racing Post Trophy Stakes

In the day’s Group 1 at Doncaster, Aiden O’Brien has an obvious chance of beating Bobby Frankel’s record of 25 winners in top rated contests in a year. Of his four runners, we actually fancy one at a bigger price, SEAHENGE. This horse seems to be progressing well and should be really suited by the step up to a mile. He has run well here before, which is another plus.

His stablemates Saxon Warrior and The Pentagon will be hard to beat, but the biggest danger could be Jim Bolger’s VERBAL DEXTERITY. Bolger has always rated this horse and he comes into the race with the best form on offer. He likes cut in the ground and is another who looks ready for the extra furlong here.

randoxhealth.com Handicap Chase

Over at Prestbury Park there are three big field handicaps to get stuck into.

First up is a long distance chase where Singlefarmpayment has a chance to go one better than when he was runner up when carrying our money at the Cheltenham Festival. He has won twice at Cheltenham before and still has room to improve over fences. If he is fit enough on his seasonal re-appearance he should be hard to beat.

However, ROBINSFIRTH looks a big danger for a jockey trainer combination of Robbie Power and Colin Tizzard that needs to be respected throughout the season. He is very lightly raced and so there is every chance he is ahead of the handicapper.

One at a bigger price that interests us is MINELLACELEBRATION who has been a model of consistency over fences recently and who appears to still be progressing. An early blunder at Chepstow last time out probably put paid to his chances, but this stiff track should suit him and he could easily run into a place at least.

Randox Health Handicap Chase

At 3.10pm there is likely to be a relentless end to end gallop in another competitive handicap, this time over two miles. We think the big field and fast pace will play to the strengths of Irish raider, SOME PLAN, who surely has more to give over fences. This is a drop in class for a horse that ran in last year’s Arkle.

His big danger could be COBRA DE MAI, who is an unexposed novice taking on the big boys for the first time. The key to him is good ground, which he looks set to get here. Hopefully, he can cope with the hurly burly of a big field.

Finally, of the outsiders, LORD BALLIM interests us most.

We think Nigel Hawke could be in for a good season and it is interesting to see him drop this horse back down in trip today. He won a two and a half mile contest at Perth on the bit two starts ago to suggest he’s not short of speed.

Paddy Power are offering 4 places for each-way bets on this race.

Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle

We also think Hawke could win the last of four Cheltenham televised races with NACHI FALLS.

This horse’s recent successes have come on good ground, and he may appreciate this return to hurdles after some reasonable recent efforts over fences. All in all, and given the form of the yard, he looks overpriced.

Another good ground performer, TEMPESTATEFLORESCO is the other one to back.

He won a valuable chase at Uttoxeter during the summer and looks very well treated over hurdles based on that effort. A win in a novice hurdle at Ludlow a fortnight ago should have put him spot on for this.

Thomas Campbell and Itsafreebee are others to consider.
