Saturday Horse Racing Tips

After a Christmas period dominated by youngsters like Clan Des Obeaux, Kemboy and Elegant Escape, attention switches to the old timers and the final of the veterans’ series at Sandown.

Unibet Veterans’ Handicap Chase

There’s a valuable prize on offer so it is no surprise to see a competitive line up of seventeen runners and with her horses in such good form the Venetia Williams duo deserve plenty of respect. Course winner HOUBLON DES OBEAUX looks particularly well treated if able to recapture some of his best form of old.

EXITAS is another horse who is proven around this track and he is one of the most consistent performers in the field who looks sure to run his race again. He was still going well when falling at Kempton over Christmas and was just outstayed over a longer trip on his last start here.

Ladbrokes are offering 5 places for each-way bets on this race.

Unibet Tolworth Novices’ Hurdle

Laurina starts out on a road that could lead to Champion Hurdle triumph in the opening race on ITV4 and her presence makes the race a non-event for punters, so instead save your money for the Tolworth Hurdle that follows.

Rathhill is the talking horse and could be a potential star, but in the hope of a shock it might be worth throwing a few quid at MERCY MERCY ME for Fergal O’Brien. He is a course and distance winner and had some good bumper form last season. This return to two miles could suit him, especially if there is enough give underfoot.

32Red.com Handicap Hurdle

The last race on the card from the Esher track is a handicap hurdle that can go the way of THISTIMENEXTYEAR, who has his ideal conditions today. He was worn down close home on heavy ground here four weeks ago and will prefer the better ground today.

SAINTEMILION is also worth backing despite his long lay-off as he looks very well treated on the best of his form in France.

BetVictor Bet 5 Get 30 Offer Chase

The remainder of the televised action comes from Wincanton where the action starts with a novices’ handicap chase that can go the way of Paul Nicholls’ THE DELLERCHECKOUT, who surely has the scope to improve significantly now trying fences for the first time. Enola Gay looks the main dangers, if he stays.

BetVictor Handicap Hurdle

A fascinating handicap hurdle follows, with lots of unexposed types in the race. They include the Jonjo O’Neill pair of Bhutan and TEDHAM, with slight preference for latter as he looks better handicapped and should relish the step in trip.

The same is true of EARLOFTHECOTSWOLDS, who should also be backed despite some concerns over the form of the Nigel Twiston-Davies yard.

William Hill are offering 5 places for each-way bets on this race.

Run For Your Money Handicap Chase

The most value race on the card is the handicap chase at 3.15pm, which can again go the way of the Nicholls’ stable courtesy of COPAIN DE CLASSE.

He looked a horse to follow when winning on his comeback and may have come out to soon after that race when only third at Wetherby last time. He will also be better going right handed.
