Saturday Horse Racing Tips

Today’s main jumping action comes from Wincanton, where it is Badger Ales Trophy day, while there is also live ITV4 coverage of the last day of the flat at Doncaster.

Badger Ales Trophy Handicap Chase

With plenty of rain forecast in the Somerset area this could turn into a real slog, which wouldn’t suit overnight favourite Present Man. Conditions may have gone against our early fancy, Double Shuffle, as well, so instead, we are going to focus on the mud larks.

In the hope that he is match fit for his re-appearance, we are going to chance FINAL NUDGE who looked like he would develop into a staying chaser to follow this season after a successful novice campaign last year. His yard is in good form and this horse loves soft ground.

The two Venetia Williams runners are feared, but her yard is yet to fully get going this winter so preference is for a proven stayer, FLETCHERS FLYER, who has won here before. Again, the ground will suit and if he can stay in contention during the early part of the race he could pass plenty of these up the long home straight.

At a monster prices, don’t rule out ALFIE SPINNER. He saves his best for this circuit and has finished second in this contest twice already. His new yard may have found the key to him now and he could get a second lease of life at 12 years old. Kerry Lee has a fine record with staying chasers and she has sent out two winners from her last seven runners.

Unibet Elite Hurdle

The other big race on the card is the Elite Hurdle, where we think ZUBAYR can gain compensation for a final flight fall here last season that denied him second place at least. He under-achieved after that, but is well treated today as a result.

Z Hotels Mares’ Handicap Hurdle

The first of four Wincanton races on ITV4 is a Mares’ Handicap Hurdle at 1.50pm.

We tipped THE ORGANIST when she last ran and she was desperately unlucky at Cheltenham that day as she was badly hammered when travelling like the winner. We hope compensation awaits here.

A big danger could be JESSBERS DREAM. She was disappointing last season, but could have been freshened up by a break. She may cope with the conditions better than most of these.

 ‘Rising Stars’ Novices’ Chase

The other televised race is a three runner Novices’ Chase, where we think the favourite, Modus, is worth opposing. KALONDRA wasn’t too far off of the favourite in terms of ratings over hurdles and may have more scope as a chaser.

Wentworth Stakes

There are a couple of big fields for us to get stuck into at Doncaster and first up is a Listed race over 6f at 2.05pm where we like DREAM OF DREAMS for Sir Michael Stoute. We think this drop in trip will really suit him.

SAINTED looks the big danger as you can excuse her last run when she got stuck in particularly heavy ground at Haydock. She’d looked really progressive prior to that.

Paddy Power are offering 4 places for each-way bets on this race.

Betfred November Handicap

The final big race of the season is the November Handicap and DANCE THE DREAM looks the one to be on here.

He is lightly raced for Marcus Tregoning, but looks to be improving fast, and trip and ground look ideal. He has a decent 7lbs claimer on board to offset a hike in the weights since his win on his previous start at Leicester.

Royal Line is a worthy favourite, whilst the lightly raced Towerlands Park is an obvious threat, but the other two to back at bigger prices are EUCHEN GLEN and MINOTAUR.

Euchen Glen drops back in trip after ruining his chances in recent starts by pulling too hard. A fast run mile and a half could be just what he needs to get back to winning ways.

Minotaur won plenty of races on the flat in France and improved steadily over hurdles for Jonjo O’Neill last year. If you can forgive a poor run last time out, he looks well treated on his best form.

Paddy Power are offering 4 places for each-way bets on this race.
