Saturday Horse Racing Tips

There are a few decent betting heats today for punters looking to boost their coffers ahead of Christmas including the very valuable Racing Welfare Handicap Hurdle that closes the action at Ascot.

Racing Welfare Handicap Hurdle

JP McManus looks to have a decent stranglehold on the race courtesy of Charli Parcs and BLEU ET ROUGE, who also represent two of the sport’s most powerful yards.

Willie Mullins is in flying for at the moment so Bleu Et Rouge just gets the nod. He was slightly disappointing over fences last year and may have needed his comeback run over hurdles recently. It is interesting that connections have decided to pitch him into such a competitive race here and Barry Geraghty has chosen him ahead of Charli Parcs.

There are dangers everywhere and of those at big prices the two we like are NIETZSCHE and FERGALL.

Brian Ellison often has a good handicap hurdler in his care and Nietzsche could be the latest. He ran well in the Greatwood on his re-appearance and that should have put him spot on for this.

Fergall was 3d in this race off of a 4lbs lower mark last year and has run consistently well in these big field handicaps lately. At 10 years old he may not be improving, but Seamus Mullins is having a good year and Kevin Jones is a decent claimer. The horse may also be able to handle soft ground better now he is a bit older.

My Pension Expert Handicap Chase

The first race from Ascot on ITV is a Handicap Chase at 1.50pm where we like the look of THEOS CHARM.

He is returning to fences today after a big run in a valuable handicap hurdle at Haydock four weeks ago. He still looks well treated over fences and six of the yard’s last eight runners have won or been placed.

JLT Reve De Sivola Long Walk Hurdle

Next up is the Long Walk Hurdle now named in honour of a fine staying hurdler, Reve De Sivola.

We think this race can be the first leg of a big race double for Nicky Henderson as THOMAS CAMPBELL looks ready for this step up in class. Going three miles has been the making of him and he could improve past the likes of the Unowhatimeanharry and our old favourite, Lil Rockerfeller.

The big danger could be one of last season’s best staying novices, THE WORLDS END. He may have needed his run at Haydock recently and shouldn’t be written off just yet. He looks over-priced.

Lavazza Silver Cup Handicap Chase

The second leg of the Henderson double can be landed by O O SEVEN in the Silver Cup. He was just below the best staying novice chasers last season and is entitled to have more improvement in him. That being the case, he looks well enough treated by the handicapper and conditions look ideal for him today.

It’s a competitive looking heat, but with the Honeyball yard in good form we think it is worth taking a chance on the enigmatic REGAL ENCORE. He ran a career best in the Ladbroke (Hennessy) last time out and his last win came in this race last year.

Betfred Tommy Whittle Handicap Chase

The big race at Haydock this afternoon is the Tommy Whittle, which will be a real stamina test in the forecast heavy ground.

Three Faces West loves it around here and is a worthy favourite, but his yard isn’t in the best of form so a better option is FULL IRISH.

Emma Lavelle’s six year old is completely unexposed over fences and could prove to be the bet of the day.

Another previous course winner, CAPTAIN REDBEARD, could be the main danger. He is yet to prove he stays this far, but he has looked like he needs this extra distance on recent starts and we know he can handle the ground.
