Scots Have High Hopes As Welsh Injuries Bite

The first round of matches in the RBS Six Nations 2018 takes place this weekend, with the action getting under way in Cardiff on Saturday afternoon as Scotland visit Wales.

There have been high profile injury problems for most of the teams, but it is Wales who have arguably been the hardest hit and Scotland will be confident of springing a surprise at the Principality Stadium. Scrum-half Rhys Webb is the latest experienced Welsh international to be ruled out and coach Warren Gatland is likely to be without as many as 8 key men.

Gregor Townsend’s Scotland thrashed Australia 53-24 at Murrayfield in their last outing in November having been narrowly beaten by New Zealand a week earlier and this is a great opportunity for them to make a statement, at best odds of 7/5 with Betfair. Saturday’s later match sees Ireland go to Paris as strong favourites, while defending champions England will be expected to run up a big score as they begin their bid for a third successive title against Italy in Rome. They are 10/11 at Betfair with an 18 point handicap.
