Serena Williams is back in action after a 14-month break from tennis and the 36-year-old has her sights firmly set on adding to her collection of 23 Grand Slam titles.
Williams, who gave birth to daughter Alexis in September, won the first two matches of her comeback at Indian Wells and at the time of writing is preparing for a third round clash with sister Venus. She has bided her time to make sure she was ready for her return to the court, but even so a little rustiness can be expected and it seems unlikely that she could get back to her best in the two months remaining before the second Grand Slam of the season, the French Open in May. She is the 5/1 market leader with Coral for the title she won for the third time in 2015, but the clay of Roland Garros is the surface that has been the least kind to her over the years.
She looks a better prospect for Wimbledon, where the grass suits her better and she will have an additional two months to prepare. She’s a stronger favourite to win that event for the eighth time, having lifted the Rosewater Dish for the seventh time in 2016. Bet365 and Paddy Power are among the firms offering best odds of 7/2, with Karolina Pliskova second in the market at 9/1 with Coral.
