Only Sergio Aguero has scored more goals in 2018 than Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon, with the teenager scoring eight times since being moved into a more attacking role by his manager Slavisa Jokanovic.
Sessegnon looks certain to be a Premier League player in the very near future with all of England’s leading clubs taking a keen interest in his development, but he could get there next season with the Cottagers if they continue on their current trajectory. The 17-year-old has scored in back-to-back home wins over Aston Villa and Wolves that have given Fulham real belief that they can gain promotion in May, if not automatically then via the play-offs.
After winning nine and drawing three of their last 12 matches, they are eight points behind second placed Cardiff ahead of a run of three games against direct rivals for a play-off berth – Derby, Sheffield United and Preston. The tactical switch for Sessegnon, coupled with the loan signing of Serbia striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, has given them the cutting edge they were lacking in the first half of the season and they now look a match for anyone, but have they left it too late to make their run? William Hill are offering them at 2/1 to be promoted.
