Shaqiri Double Keeps Liverpool Top

Liverpool remain top of the Premier League after 17 matches thanks to a comprehensive 3-1 victory over mid-table Manchester United at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side rattled up a tally of 36 shots in a one-sided contest which was settled by a brace from substitute Xherdan Shaqiri in the second half.

Sadio Mane had given the hosts the lead after a spell of intense early pressure, before Jesse Lingard pounced on an error from goalkeeper Alisson to equalise for United.

Manchester City, who had briefly eclipsed Liverpool with their 3-1 win over Everton on Saturday, are once more one point adrift of the leaders in second place.

However, the champions remain the 2/5* favourites with Bet365 in the Premier League title betting. William Hill, BetVictor and Betfred are offering best odds of 5/2* that Liverpool can win the top flight for the first time since 1990.

Liverpool face in-form Wolves at Molineux in an intriguing fixture on Friday night, before City take on Crystal Palace in one of Saturday’s 3pm kick-offs.
