Indian golfer Shubhankar Sharma is hardly a household name, but the 21-year-old may well become one if he continues to display the sort of form that earned him a second victory of the European Tour season at the Maybank Championship. Sharma, who won the Joburg Open in December, stormed through to win by two shots in Malaysia with a closing round of 62, landing pre-tournament odds of 66/1 – while he was out to 125/1 after Saturday’s second round.
His two victories have sent him shooting 400 places up the world rankings and to the top of the Race to Dubai, with his win in South Africa also earning him a place in his first major, this summer’s Open Championship at Carnoustie. He remains somewhat under the radar, however, with only two firms adding him to the betting for his July trip to Scotland. Of the two, Bet365 are quoting the best price of 200/1.
