Venue

The TPC at Summerlin in Las Vegas hosts the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open 2017, the event at which Tiger Woods won his first professional title 21 years ago. The par 71, 7,235-yard layout relies on fairway bunkers and the occasional water hazard for protection but there are plenty of birdies to be made. It’s not the most memorable of courses, but it features a strong closing stretch including a driveable par four and a par three over water, which Jonathan Byrd aced to win a three-man play-off in 2010. Rod Pampling was the surprise winner of this title last year, beating Brooks Koepka by two shots. Smylie Kaufman won here in 2015, while other recent champions include Ben Martin, Webb Simpson, Ryan Moore and Kevin Na.

Favourites

Tony Finau was 11th in China last weekend and runner-up at the recent Safeway Open and the world no. 41 is the market leader in a tournament short on star quality, at best odds of 16/1 with Paddy Power and Coral – who are both offering 7 places for each-way bets. Patrick Cantlay has been in great form over the last six months as he rebuilds his career following a back injury and the death of his long-time friend and caddie Chris Roth and the 25-year-old is at 20/1 with Paddy Power and Coral. Paddy Power quote Webb Simpson at 22/1, while Chesson Hadley is rated the best of the rest at 30s with the same firm.

Tips

BYEONG-HUN AN has emerged from a run of missed cuts to put in a couple of impressive performances on his last two outings, finishing 21st at the Italian Open and then 11th at the inaugural CJ Cup in his home country of South Korea. The world number 76 reached a career high of 24th in the world rankings in 2015 and has the talent to get back to those heights. He’s at 40/1 with various bookmakers – but take those 7 places with Paddy Power.

KEVIN STREELMAN has made a solid start to the new PGA Tour season, finishing 13th at the Safeway Open and 10th at the Sanderson Farms Championship, to build on a decent run which has seen him miss only one cut in his last 12 outings. He was second at Summerlin three years ago and has been in and around the top 20 on four further occasions at this venue. Coral are offering best price 50/1 – again with 7 places.

JAMIE LOVEMARK has been enjoying a prolonged run inside the world’s top 100 and is up to 81st after sharing fifth place at the CJ Cup a fortnight ago. He’s missed only one cut in his last 19 events, enjoying a couple of further top 10s along the way this summer. He was inside the top 30 at both The Open and the US Open and can go better in this company. Paddy Power quote a top price of 50/1 – a lot better than the miserly 28/1 offered by Betfred & Stan James.
