Elina Svitolina has been cut across the board to win the French Open after thrashing market leader Simona Halep to win the Italian Open. Svitolina won 6-0 6-4 in Rome, defeating Halep in the final for the second successive year, in a timely boost to her confidence ahead of the second Grand Slam event of the season.
The 23-year-old world number four has never been beyond the quarter-finals at a Grand Slam, although her performances have been steadily improving and she has twice reached the last eight on the clay of Roland Garros.
As Serena Williams struggles to regain her form and fitness following the birth of her first child, Halep heads the betting at 11/2 with Bet365 and Betfred, with Svitolina now the second favourite at a best price of 13/2 with Paddy Power. Garbine Muguruza, the 2016 winner, is at 12/1 with Ladbrokes with defending champion Jelena Ostapenko a 14/1 chance with Paddy Power.
