Huddersfield will be approaching the closing weeks of the season with some trepidation after their 2-0 defeat at home to Everton on Saturday left them three points above the relegation zone with an inferior goal difference to both Swansea and Southampton.
The Terriers face Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal in their final three games and know that three defeats would mean a strong likelihood of them making an instant return to the Championship after an eventful campaign in the top flight. They go to the Etihad Stadium next Sunday after Southampton’s visit to Everton, then visit Stamford Bridge a day after Saints travel to Swansea. A victory in either of those games for Southampton could easily leave Huddersfield needing to beat Arsenal to stay up, while it could also throw Swansea into a last day survival showdown with Stoke.
It’s a complicated picture, but for now it’s Southampton who are the Even money favourites to take the third relegation place alongside West Brom and Stoke. Huddersfield can be backed at 7/4 with BetVictor – with Swansea 11/4 at Betfred.
