Saturday is a huge day for the country’s bookmakers with the running of the 2018 Grand National in the afternoon at Aintree.
One For Arthur won last year’s race at 14/1, although he won’t be back for a second crack at the biggest prize in National Hunt racing.
The Willie Mullins-trained Total Recall is the market leader, having shortened from 16/1 to a best price of 10/1 since the handicaps were announced back in February. Anibale Fly, Tiger Roll and the former favourite Blaklion are each 12/1, with Minella Rocco and The Last Samurai each currently available at 16/1. The rest of the field are priced at 20/1 and beyond.
The weather in Liverpool looks set to be grey and damp for much of the week, although there appears little prospect of the sort of downpours that would have a significant impact on the ground. With a Premier League game between Liverpool and Bournemouth following on immediately after the race, prior to a Saturday evening cracker at Wembley where Tottenham host Manchester City, it’s set to be a record-breaking day for the bookies. They will all be throwing out sweeteners across both sports as the big race draws nearer in a bid to attract the greatest possible share of business, so expect special offers for both new and existing customers.
